Alongside modern standard-sized gaskets, many non-standard gaskets are still widely used in industrial applications, especially in older systems. In these cases, sourcing a replacement gasket can be complex and time-consuming. KLINGER Finland has developed a solution for this challenge: the KLINGER 2D-modelling service.
The KLINGER 2D-modelling system captures precise images of gaskets or directly of flange surfaces on-site and generates an accurate 2D model used for manufacturing a new gasket. Based on this image, KLINGER’s gasket cuttingshop produces a perfectly fitting gasket quickly and accurately.
Previous modelling systems were fixed solutions intended for production lines. Therefore, Axel Barman, Sales Director for KLINGER Finland’s Industrial Valves and Gaskets business, sought a portable alternative to better meet customer needs. “For example, some power plants have massive seawater pumps that cannot be moved. In such cases, we need to go on-site to capture the image. Older machines also often lack drawings, so a new gasket must be modeled based on the old one,” Axel explains.
Consistently accurate and fast cutting
Gasket measurement images are stored in KLINGER Finland’s system, linked to the equipment number or the customer’s identifier. This allows the same gasket to be easily and quickly reordered without the need for new measurements. Pre-modeled gaskets improve plant availability and save time, effort, and costs.
The KLINGER 2D-modelling system delivers consistent, repeatable results with accuracy at the per mille level, even for complex gasket shapes. Unlike manual measuring, 2D-modelling reduces the risk of errors, as the measurement process is entirely contact-free. Each unit also has its own correction file to compensate for optical distortions, ensuring the system accounts for deviations that may not be visible to the human eye.
KLINGER Finland’s trained expert team offers the KLINGER 2D-modelling service throughout Finland. Thanks to portable imaging units, the service can be delivered quickly to customers needing on-site gasket or flange surface scanning.
