KLINGER Finland is working with DHL to make its supply chain more sustainable. The cooperation covers a wide range of transportation needs, from international express shipments to road, air, and ocean freight. DHL GoGreen Plus solutions and emissions data from our shipments support our efforts to decarbonize our supply chain and reduce the environmental impact of logistics.
Our sustainability efforts extend beyond our own operations to our supply chain. As an internationally operating company, transportation is an essential part of this: products and components move both from our suppliers to us and from us to our customers in Finland and internationally.
We therefore want to develop our logistics not only in terms of delivery reliability and efficiency, but also with regard to environmental impact. DHL is one of our key partners in this work.
A long-term commitment to sustainability
Sustainability has long been an integral part of KLINGER Finland’s operations. Our work is supported by ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications, and we continuously work to improve the energy efficiency of our operations and reduce emissions.
At the same time, we are taking an increasingly comprehensive view of the environmental impact of our entire value chain. Logistics is one concrete area where, together with our partners, we can address indirect emissions generated within our supply chain.
– Sustainability was not something that came to us as an external requirement. It has been part of our operations for a long time, well before today’s reporting requirements. It is about continuous improvement and our commitment to doing things the right way in the long term, says Micaela Roswall, Quality Director at KLINGER Finland.
Our cooperation with DHL covers a wide range of transportation needs
KLINGER Finland’s cooperation with DHL began with DHL Express services and has expanded over the years to include solutions from DHL Freight and DHL Global Forwarding. Today, DHL is our main logistics partner, handling approximately 75% of our shipments.
The different services meet different logistics needs. DHL Express is used particularly for fast international express and courier shipments. DHL Freight provides solutions for European road and rail freight, while DHL Global Forwarding handles international air and ocean freight as well as freight forwarding services.
The broad scope of our cooperation allows us to consider different modes of transportation as part of the same overall supply chain.
– Delivery reliability is extremely important to us, but at the same time, we want to make our supply chain more sustainable. One of DHL’s strengths is that we have been able to look at these objectives together and find solutions that support both, Roswall explains.
GoGreen Plus helps reduce transportation emissions
One concrete way we are improving the sustainability of our logistics is through DHL GoGreen Plus, which we use as part of our transportation solutions.
GoGreen Plus solutions reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with transportation through the use of sustainable fuels and other lower-emission solutions, depending on the mode of transport. DHL uses Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in air transport, sustainable marine fuels in ocean freight, and biofuels and electric vehicles in road transport.
In 2025, approximately 108.7 tCO₂e of emissions associated with KLINGER Finland’s transportation were reduced through DHL’s GoGreen program.
The solution is partly based on a book-and-claim model, in which emissions reductions achieved through the use of sustainable fuels can be allocated to customers using the service. This enables emissions reductions within DHL’s transportation network even when sustainable fuel cannot be used for a specific individual shipment.
For KLINGER Finland, GoGreen Plus has provided a practical way to make progress step by step.
– DHL provided us with an easy way to start using lower-emission transportation solutions. We have been able to gradually increase our use of the solution while developing our own operations at the same time, Roswall says.
GoGreen Plus also includes reporting and a certificate for the CO₂e emissions reductions achieved. The information provided can be used as part of our own emissions and sustainability reporting.
Data makes progress measurable
In addition to reducing emissions, access to transportation data is an important part of our cooperation with DHL. Comparable data on the environmental impact of our supply chain enables us to monitor progress and make decisions based on better information.
The importance of this information is also growing from our customers’ perspective.
– Our customers are increasingly asking for information about carbon footprints, emissions, and sustainability measures. In these situations, it is important to have reliable data available rather than estimates alone, says Matti Pirttinen, Purchaser & Logistics Coordinator at KLINGER Finland.
Reporting allows us to monitor the environmental impact of transportation and its development over time, as well as identify new areas for improvement.
– Transparency is important both to us and to our customers. When information is readily available and can be reported, monitoring sustainability targets becomes much more concrete, Pirttinen says.
Towards a decarbonized supply chain through cooperation
There is no single solution for reducing the environmental impact of a supply chain. It requires continuous improvement and a comprehensive approach to our own operations, transportation solutions, and cooperation with our partners.
– Sustainability is not a one-off project but a continuous process. Progress is made step by step together with our partners, Roswall says.
Our cooperation with DHL will continue as part of this work. Our goal is to decarbonize our supply chain by combining reliable and efficient transportation with more sustainable alternatives while improving visibility into the environmental impact of our supply chain.
– We want to provide our customers with both reliable deliveries and greater transparency regarding the environmental impact of the supply chain. Our cooperation with DHL supports these goals well, Pirttinen concludes.
