KLINGER Finland acknowledges the environmental impacts of its business and strives to align its operations with sustainable development and to prevent adverse effects of its activities. The Environmental Management System of KLINGER Finland is certified according to the ISO14001:2015 standard.

We continuously improve our environmental systems, taking into account the purpose of our operations, our operating environment, and the needs of our customers. KLINGER Finland supplies products and services primarily to Finnish industry and wholesale sectors.

We encourage our personnel to perform their work in a way that ensures everyone takes responsibility for the environment, commits to environmentally responsible practices, and enhances the organization’s environmental responsibility. Environmentally responsible actions are supported and encouraged i.e. through communicetion and training.

Our environmental objectives

  • reducing energy consumption by the end of 2025 with more than 7,5 % from the level of 2017
  • improving recycling and reducing the amount of waste ending up in landfills
  • considering the environmental aspects in procurement and investments (e.g. vehicles and their emissions)
  • favouring public transportation on business travel and commutation
  • centralising and choosing transport companies committed to environmental aspects
  • increasing the environmental awareness among personnel and partners
  • selecting products compliant with sustainable development into our product portfolio

KLINGER Finland complies with current environmental legislation and requires the same from its partners.

Monitoring environmental impacts

KLINGER Finland actively monitors the environmental impacts of its operations and strives to continuously reduce them. We are committed to the principles of sustainable development, which is particularly evident in our operational practices and energy efficiency projects.

We monitor our energy consumption and carbon footprint at SCOPE 1-2 levels on a quarterly basis. The carbon footprint also takes into account the emissions from goods transportation and business travel. In the near future, the goal is to collect data at the SCOPE 3 level.

As part of our environmental policy, KLINGER Finland has joined the Motiva Energy Efficiency Agreement 2017-2025 program, which aims to improve the company’s energy efficiency and reduce total energy consumption by 7.5% from the 2017 level by the end of 2025.

Total energy consumption includes vehicle fuels, purchased heating, cooling, and electricity for the property. With these actions, KLINGER Finland aims to contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and the mitigation of climate change.

We achieved and exceeded our energy savings goal halfway through the Motiva Energy Efficiency Agreement 2017-2025 program when we made significant improvements to the energy efficiency of our facilities during the reorganization of warehouse premises in 2022. Altogether, these measures have led to a reduction in our energy consumption by over 15 percent.

Implemented environmentally responsible actions

Waste management: Most of the company’s waste is utilized either as raw material or energy. Hazardous waste is sorted separately, and its amount has been decreasing.

Energy efficiency: For years, we have been procuring our electricity exclusively from renewable sources. In district heating, we have taken the first steps towards CO2-free energy. Significant energy efficiency investments have been made by replacing the old heat exchanger in the district heating system and updating the building automation system that controls ventilation and heating.

Reducing indoor temperature: We participated in the nationwide “One Degree Lower” campaign, where indoor temperatures were lowered to around 21 degrees Celsius. This has resulted in approximately a seven percent net reduction in district heating consumption.

Waste heat recovery: In our warehouse, the waste heat from the compressor room is now recovered and utilized for property heating. Electric heaters and blowers have also been replaced with energy-efficient air source heat pumps.

LED lighting: The old fluorescent tubes in the property have been replaced with energy-efficient LED lights. LED lighting not only consumes significantly less electricity but also improves the quality of lighting in high warehouse spaces. In the warehouses, lighting control has also been automated with motion sensors, allowing the light intensity to drop to one percent of the normal level when there is no movement.

Building insulation: During the reorganization of the warehouse spaces, improvements were made to the building’s insulation. Additional insulation was added to the walls, and the windows were replaced with tighter models, reducing drafts and improving the comfort of the working spaces.

Electric transportation: KLINGER Finland’s vehicle fleet is being upgraded towards fully electric mobility. Currently, there are 14 charging points for electric cars in the company yard, and more will be added as needed. Employees are also offered electric bicycles as a company benefit for commuting and other travel.
